What is QTML?
Quantum Techniques in Machine Learning (QTML) is an annual international conference focusing on the interdisciplinary field of quantum technology and machine learning. The conference brings together leading academic researchers and industry experts to explore the interplay between quantum computing and machine learning, from foundational theory to real-world applications. The 2026 edition is the 10th installment of the conference series.
When and where is QTML 2026?
QTML 2026 takes place December 6 - 11, 2026, at Stellenbosch University in Stellenbosch, South Africa.
Who should attend QTML 2026?
QTML 2026 is designed for researchers, students, and industry professionals working at the intersection of quantum computing and machine learning. This includes quantum physicists, computer scientists, data scientists, and engineers interested in quantum-enhanced algorithms, variational methods, quantum error correction, and related topics. Both theoretical and applied researchers are welcome.
Is QTML 2026 an in-person or virtual event?
QTML 2026 is a fully in-person event held at Stellenbosch University, South Africa. There will be no virtual participation or attendance — all keynotes, talks, poster sessions, networking, and social events take place on-site. We look forward to welcoming all participants in person.
What language is the conference conducted in?
All sessions, presentations, and materials are in English.
SSubmissions
How do I submit a paper or abstract?
Submissions are handled through our Indico submission portal. You'll need to create an Indico account (if you don't already have one), then follow the submission link from our Call for Papers page.
What time zone are the deadlines in?
All deadlines, including the abstract submission deadline of 7 July 2026, are given in Anywhere on Earth (AoE) time. This means a deadline has not passed until it is past that date everywhere on Earth — that is, 23:59 on the stated date in the UTC-12 time zone. As long as it is still 7 July 2026 somewhere on the planet, your submission is on time, so there is no need to convert the deadline to your local time zone.
Will there be a deadline extension?
Deadline extensions are not guaranteed and will be decided by the Programme Committee. Any extensions will be announced on the website and via our mailing list. We recommend planning to submit before the posted deadline.
Can I submit work that has been published elsewhere?
QTML welcomes submissions of recently published work, work under review, and new unpublished work. The conference does not publish formal proceedings, so presenting at QTML does not constitute prior publication.
AAttendance
Can I get a visa invitation letter?
Yes, we can provide visa invitation letters for registered participants. After completing your registration, you can request an invitation letter through the registration portal or by emailing qtml2026@nithecs.ac.za. Please allow at least 2 weeks for processing and apply for your visa well in advance.
VVenue & Travel
Is parking available at the venue?
Yes, there is ample parking available at Stellenbosch University. Detailed parking information and maps will be provided closer to the conference date.
Will WiFi be available?
Yes, complimentary WiFi will be available throughout the conference venue. Login credentials will be provided at registration.
Can dietary requirements be accommodated?
Yes, we cater to various dietary requirements including vegetarian, vegan, halal, kosher, and gluten-free options. Please indicate your dietary needs during registration so we can ensure appropriate meals are available.
What is the best way to get from Cape Town Airport to Stellenbosch?
Cape Town International Airport is approximately 30-40 minutes from Stellenbosch by car. Options include rental cars, ride-sharing services (Uber is widely available), and pre-arranged shuttle services. We will provide more detailed transport information closer to the event.
